Position: Tower Technician & Climber

Position Overview:

This position requires a person with experience in the communication tower business. They are able to perform all general ground and aerial procedures associated with the installation of a communication tower. They have proven capabilities to work independently and safely on towers and rooftops incorporating fall protection practices and proper use of personal safety equipment. They are able to install various antenna, transmission lines and connectors along with ancillary equipment. They also have a strong work ethic, excellent safety background, and can travel throughout Western Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Proper use and continuous inspection of personal safety equipment.
  • Identify and select cables, ropes, blocks, and tackle by weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Material management of supplies and assets including securing of materials on site.
  • Set up anchors for the guy wires and have them ready to pull the guys up to tension, and check guy wire frequencies.
  • Able to identify potential steel or connection failures.
  • Complete tower inspections including connections, rust, guy connections and frequencies, tower paint quality, major concrete crack deformations, etc.
  • Install various antennas, mounts, transmission lines, hoisting grips, ice guards, lightning and ground protection, tower lighting, and coax entry ports.
  • Perform plumb and tension exercises, and megher tests.
  • Provide direction to Crane Operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads, to ensure the safety of others and material handled.
Job Requirements:
  • Familiar with tower erection, antenna and transmission line systems, and gin pole working procedures.
  • Working knowledge of;
    • Installation tower practices and requirements.
    • Safety standards and regulations.
    • Fall protection practices and procedures.
    • Winch operations and ability to read winch and gin-pole load charts.
    • Blue print reading and assembly drawings.
  • Acceptable record of safety and discipline.
  • Able to work at heights, rooftops and towers.
  • Heavy lifting, manual dexterity and proficient use of installation tools are required.
  • Must understand the principles of tower erection.
Qualifications:
  • 2 plus years experience
  • Successful completion of a Safety & Rigging course (Comtrain, Safetyone, or equivalent)
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Valid First Aid and CPR training
